Michael McQuade advances to VP of Engineering, Matt Long to Director of Mission Engineering and Quan Nguyen to Director of Engineering
Chicago, IL – October 27, 2026 – Parallel Works, provider of the ACTIVATE™ control plane for hybrid multi-cloud computing resources, today announced the promotions of Michael McQuade to Vice President of Engineering, Matt Long to Director of Mission Engineering, and Quan Nguyen to Director of Engineering. The appointments strengthen the company's engineering leadership as it expands support for organizations deploying and managing increasingly complex high-performance computing (HPC), AI and mission-critical workloads.
The leadership roles reinforce Parallel Works’ integrated approach to HPC and AI infrastructure, pairing software innovation with the engineering expertise needed to turn computing resources into reliable, production-ready environments.
“Most HPC and AI projects don’t stall because the hardware isn’t there. They stall because no one owns the integration, the tuning and unexpected failures. That’s what mission engineering is for, and it’s why we’re putting experienced leaders in charge of it,” said Matthew Shaxted, CEO of Parallel Works. “Michael, Matt and Quan have dedicated years to helping researchers and engineers overcome complex HPC and AI challenges with world-class solutions. These promotions position them to expand that impact, bringing their expertise and innovative approaches to an even broader range of customers.”
Parallel Works enables data-driven Mission Engineering (ME) by providing the HPC and AI orchestration needed to run complex, large-scale simulations. Its ACTIVATE control plane connects researchers and engineers to on-premises, cloud and GPU-provider resources under one identity. By automating workload management across these environments, organizations can improve speed, reliability and continuity for computationally demanding work in scientific discovery, defense and AI development.
As Vice President of Engineering, McQuade will lead the continued development and advancement of the ACTIVATE platform, guiding engineering teams responsible for expanding its capabilities across HPC, AI and hybrid multi-cloud environments.
Previously Director of Engineering at Parallel Works, McQuade brings extensive experience in software development, cloud architecture and HPC systems. He has contributed to ACTIVATE's evolution, including capabilities that simplify infrastructure management, automate complex workflows, and provide greater control over computing resources. In his expanded leadership role, he will focus on advancing the platform's architecture, scalability and functionality to address evolving customer requirements.
Long, promoted to Director of Mission Engineering, will lead mission engineering at Parallel Works and oversee the teams that deploy, operate, and support customer HPC and AI environments. He will focus on strengthening customer engagement, optimizing infrastructure performance and ensuring organizations can reliably execute demanding computational workloads. His promotion reflects the growing importance of mission engineering as organizations seek to reduce operational complexity, maximize computing investments and accelerate research and innovation.
Nguyen has been promoted to Director of Engineering, having previously served as Engineering Team Lead at Parallel Works. With a background in software development, cloud technologies and machine learning, Nguyen brings technical expertise to the company's engineering organization. In his expanded role, he will help lead engineering efforts supporting the continued development and innovation of Parallel Works' ACTIVATE platform.
