# Viewing Allocations

Allocations are budgets that organization admins create and share. This page covers what users with access can see. To create and manage allocations, see [Allocations](/docs/organization-admin/billing/allocations).

## Navigation

In the sidebar, under **Monitor**, click **Allocations**. The **My allocations** tab lists every allocation shared with you (organization admins see all of them). Each row shows the allocation's **Total**, **Used**, **Estimated**, **Remaining**, and **% Used**.

## Reading an allocation

Click an allocation's name to open its details page.

#### Definition

- **Type** — **Managed allocation** (in U.S. dollars, rated by the platform) or **Custom allocation** (in a custom unit such as core-hours).
- **Allowed resource types** — the kinds of resources the allocation can fund: cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google, Oracle, OpenStack), Kubernetes, and AI. **All resource types** means there's no restriction.
- **Unit** — USD, or the custom unit.

#### Budget

- **Total** — the budget set by an admin.
- **Used** — confirmed spend: invoiced cloud costs from your cloud providers plus usage recorded against the allocation. Cloud invoices typically arrive a few hours to a day after the usage.
- **Estimated** — Used plus real-time estimates for resources that are still running and not yet invoiced. Estimates only apply to USD allocations.
- **Remaining** and **Usage** — what is left of the Total.

If your organization sets an [allocation start date](/docs/organization-admin/settings/policies#allocation-start-date), Used and Estimated only count spend since the most recent occurrence of that date, so they reset once a year.

#### Associated resource groups

The resource groups funded by this allocation. Click one you have access to in order to open it.

## Budget status

Resource groups and resources show a status badge when their allocation needs attention:

| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **No budget** | The allocation's Total is 0. New resources cannot start until an admin sets a budget. A budget of 0 means no budget, not unlimited. |
| **Over the N% threshold** | Usage passed one of your organization's [allocation thresholds](/docs/organization-admin/billing/thresholds). You may get an email. |
| **Budget exceeded** | Usage passed a threshold that freezes new work. Running resources keep running, but nothing new can start or be moved onto the allocation until an admin raises the budget. |
| Shutdown | If the threshold also shuts resources down, clusters and instances in resource groups on the allocation are stopped. Storage is kept. |

## Viewing usage in Reports

In the sidebar, under **Monitor**, click **Reports** to chart an allocation's spend over time. See [Allocation Cost Dashboard](/docs/monitoring/allocation-costs) for the full guide.

1. Select an **Allocation**. The list shows the allocations you can access.
2. Choose a **Time range** and how to **Group by**: **Type**, **Subtype**, **User**, or **SKU**.
3. For USD allocations, leave **Include realtime estimates** on to include running resources that haven't been invoiced yet.

Cloud costs that carry no username (for example, shared account charges) are shown under your organization's [default billing username](/docs/organization-admin/settings/policies#default-billing-username), if one is set.
