## pw cluster stop

Stop a cloud cluster's controller, or disconnect an existing cluster

### Synopsis

The **pw cluster stop** command stops a cloud cluster's controller, keeping
its disks so **pw cluster start** can resume it later. Compute nodes must
have drained first; the platform refuses to stop a controller with active
nodes. For an existing cluster it disconnects the platform from the cluster.

To tear a cloud cluster's resources down entirely, use **pw cluster destroy**.

On a terminal the command opens the live view until the cluster has stopped.
Pass **-o text** to return as soon as the request is accepted, or **--wait**
to block and print one line per step instead.

```
pw cluster stop <cluster> [flags]
```

### Examples

```
  # Stop a cluster and watch it stop
  pw cluster stop my-hpc
  # Stop a cluster from a script, blocking until it has stopped
  pw cluster stop --wait my-hpc
  # Disconnect an existing cluster
  pw cluster stop pw://Jake.Thayne/onprem
```

### Options

```
  -h, --help            help for stop
  -o, --output string   Output format (interactive, text, json) (default "interactive")
      --wait            Wait for the cluster to stop, printing progress, before exiting
```

### Options inherited from parent commands

      --context string The context to use. Overrides PW_CONTEXT environment variable and current context from config.
      --platform-host string The Parallel Works ACTIVATE platform host to use. Overrides PW_PLATFORM_HOST environment variable and the current context's server.
  -v, --verbose                Enable verbose logging
